Sewing is the kind of manual labor. Sewing represents the creation of materials (fabric, leather) stitches and stitches with a needle and thread, fishing line, etc. It is considered one of the oldest manufacturing technologies that emerged in the Stone Age. Before the invention of yarn and woven fabric sewn clothing and fur pelts harvested animals with needles of bone or horn and “threads” of the tendons, veins and animal intestines.

Sewing is usually associated with the creation of sewing clothes and home textiles (fir instance, bedding, tablecloths, napkins, towels, curtains, etc.), but it is also used in the manufacture of footwear, toys, when sewing sails, upholstery and drapery studies, binding as well as the manufacture of certain sporting goods (for instance, goals). Sewing – is a common name for several species of needlework, including embroidery, quilting, applique, and patchwork, as stated in Origin of sewing- sewing history.

Millennia sewing were performed entirely by hand. The invention of the sewing machine in the XIX century and the computerization of the second half of XX century led to mass production of garments, sewing by hand but is still widely practiced throughout the world. Exclusive handicraft typical of professional tailors, fashion, traditional national costume, and is valued by professionals and amateurs as an expression of creativity.

To sew clothes, you must first cut out the fabric. Cut out patterns on fabric, by made up the drawings. After that, the individual pieces of fabric, or other material are sewn together. In the manufacture of clothing, there are the following basic types of stitches: straight, oblique, cross-shaped, folded and loop, as stated in A brief history of hand sewing.

Until a few centuries ago, people tried to ensure that the fashion clothing was not just functional, but also beautiful. At first glance, all the clothes anyway just cover the human body and warms it, but there is a huge difference between an ordinary dress and the dress that makes you look great, as described in A history of sewing.

In the past, the clothes transformed from boring to interesting with art decoration. Fancy “features,” such as: lace, ribbons, lace and tassels – they are all excellent examples of finishes that were used at home “high” fashion in XVIII century. But today’s fashion does not see all the above decorations and accessories like something out of the ordinary. This is due to the fact that the development of the sewing and sewing rose to an even higher level.

Finishing in high fashion. Skillful sewing and finishing by makers were evaluated as indicators of status, especially in the era of Victorian fashion, when people had to look for others to understand at once that it belongs to the high society of the time. It was a time just before the invention of the sewing machine, therefore, all these ornaments to clothing were done manually. The essence of this method lies in the fact that people had to pay by the hour for a seamstress to complete all orders on time. Sewing and finishing of each garment, “rose” to the customer in a very large sum of money. The result of this economic effect was that the dress with a lot of added decoration, and has become a symbol of the special status in the society, as it represented a man who has the financial means to enable him to have the clothes.

The appearance of the sewing machine. In the new century, sewing machines such as those produced by Zinger, gained much popularity and greatly facilitated self- sewing over the last century. Simple, easy-to-use project sewing machine made embroidery and finishing garments with more complex elements in a very simple process, even at home.

The most obvious effect of the invention was that when these machines have become more popular among the masses, they slowly began to lose its popularity among people of the upper classes. The end result is that the popularity of sewing and finishing in fashion has become inversely proportional – one rose and the other have lost its popularity.

Step into the modern era. Since the last decade of the 1930s, sewing in a variety of its forms was not widespread and popular. Notable exceptions were things like fringed jackets, made in a country style, which was prevalent in the 1990s and is popular in fashion ornate home clothes in the 1980s. However, after almost a century, sewing was again appearing in high-end models, including clothing such esteemed fashion houses like Chanel, as well as other major fashion houses, which created the market, based on the high fashion (haute couture). It primarily consisted of private, custom projects clothes.

Fashion is constantly “rotate” in a circle back to the traditions of Victorian fashion. Now back in fashion dresses, sewn and finished by hand, it’s much more complicated than manufactory production, and, consequently, must and is valued more. It seems that while there is a market that requires high- quality, hand-made clothes, in the fashion world will always be a place for the art of a good sewing.
